Stories from the Field - benefits of responsible mineral trade through the iTSCi programme (July 2017)

20 July 2017

The iTSCi Programme enables responsible 3T mineral production and trade across the Great Lakes region of central Africa and internationally. While our work was started as a response to conflict concerns and negative circumstances, promotion of trade can bring many benefits.

This month we are pleased to be able to provide a ‘Story from the field’ describing how iTSCi is implementing the WORTH for Miners project in the DRC aiming to improve miners’ incomes by training and strengthening literacy, numeracy, savings and financial skills through an engaging and appropriate curriculum, as well as another story on how local stakeholder committees found a solution to the challenges faced by SAESSCAM in Maniema through the implementation of an internship programme.

If you are interested in more information please visit www.itsci.org. We welcome your feedback and suggestions on how iTSCi can be improved.

The iTSCi Programme aims to work within the OECD’s framework and to comply with the UN guidelines to create a system that assists companies with traceability, due diligence and audit requirements that arise from purchasing 3T minerals, particularly from the DRC and Rwanda. The T.I.C. and ITRI sit on the iTSCi Governance Committee.
