T.I.C. holds successful virtual General Meeting
30 June 2020
Today the T.I.C. held its first ever virtual General Meeting attended in person by just a notary, our legal counsel (from Jones Day) and Emma Wickens, our Secretary General. The meeting in Brussels, Belgium, took under an hour and was permitted under a special Belgian Covid-19 law which allows for virtual meetings to be held in June 2020, even when a company or association’s charter does not explicitly mention it.
During the meeting, members voted to approve adopting a revised Charter, the 2019 audited accounts and the modified 16-month budget. Roland Chavasse, T.I.C. Director, said "These necessary changes will give us the flexibility to face these challenging times with confidence”.
This meeting had been called because a new Belgian law requires approval of the association accounts, by the membership, within 6 months of the end of the financial year; something we could not achieve with a January-December financial year and an AGM the following October (10 months later). The new Charter moves our financial year to May-April, so that in future years we can approve the accounts at our October AGM.
